BASICS X FOLLICIUM™ 2dDR 1% is a focused scalp hydrogel containing 1% 2-deoxy-D-ribose, also known as 2dDR.
The formula uses an ultra lightweight water-based alginate gel, developed in house for this specific molecule, rather than an ordinary liquid serum. This helps hold the product against the scalp and provides controlled, targeted application without requiring a long list of additional actives.
Why 1%?
The concentration has been selected to remain closely aligned with the 0.394% 2dDR gel examined in published preclinical hair research.
We have deliberately avoided using a dramatically higher concentration simply to create a stronger marketing number. More active is not automatically more effective, particularly when human dose-ranging studies have not yet been completed. Our internal research points to 1% being a perfect level for researching this exciting new hair care molecule. Any higher that 1% and the hydrogel becomes to heavy to effectively deliver a sustained dosage. Furthermore, to sustain a higher load would require heavy preservation systems and potentially irritating levels of antioxidants. Follicium products are based around results and effective formulations - we formulate our products based on the most up to date research and clinically understood biological pathways.

What is 2-deoxy-D-ribose?
2-deoxy-D-ribose is a naturally occurring deoxypentose sugar associated with the structure and metabolism of DNA.
It has attracted interest within regenerative and vascular research because laboratory and animal studies have investigated its relationship with cellular signalling, VEGF production and new blood-vessel development.
In 2024, researchers evaluated a 2dDR-containing alginate gel in a model of androgen-associated hair loss. Improvements were reported across several measured hair and follicle parameters.
BASICS X FOLLICIUM™ 2dDR 1% should therefore be understood as an experimental, evidence-informed scalp-care concept rather than a clinically proven treatment for hair loss.

How to use
Apply only to a clean, dry and intact scalp.
- Part the hair to expose the required area.
- Apply a small amount of gel directly to the scalp.
- Spread into a thin, even layer using clean fingertips.
- Allow the gel to dry before applying styling products or headwear.
- Wash hands after application.
Use only at the frequency stated on the product packaging.
Do not apply an excessive layer. More product has not been shown to provide a better result.
Routine compatibility
Use 2dDR 1% as an additional leave-on product within the Follicium range. It can be used as a stand alone product or immediately combining it with your regular Follicium serum protocol.
*Please note that this product should be used in an AM/PM configuration and not applied at the same time as our Copper Peptide product lines.
Do not use in the same application:
- Any Follicium Copper-peptide formulas.
- Any protein-rich scalp treatments.
- Any Strong exfoliating products.
Follicium™ Active Powder may be applied after the gel has dried completely.
Important information

Do not use immediately before or after microneedling or another procedure that compromises the skin barrier.

Discontinue use if persistent burning, redness, itching, swelling or another unexpected reaction develops.
